The spiral, an early symbol for the sun, is the most common ancient symbol found everywhere people have settled or visited. Because ancient people believed the sun died every evening and was reborn in the mornings, spirals decorate ancient tombs, crypts and burial sites to represent this cycle of life, death and rebirth.
You can see growth spirals or whorls occurring in nature. Just look at how how leaves naturally arrange themselves on stems, or the spiral designs on pineapples, artichokes, pine cone, sun flowers and Romanesco broccoli, to name just a few.
Spirals appear virtually everywhere in nature, even in space, just take a look at the Milky Way.
